Seylan Bank

History
Seylan Bank was incorporated in 1987 as a Public Limited Liability Company. Its mission was to build a strong bank with equally strong subsidiaries serving the needs of all its customers within and outside Sri Lanka.

In 1989 the Bank took over the Matara Branch of Indian Overseas Bank and in 1991, at the request of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka, Seylan Bank took over the management of the two local branches of the British based Bank of Credit and Commerce International (BCCI) which went into liquidation.

Seylan Bank established its first subsidiary, Seylan Merchant Bank Limited, in 1992. A second subsidiary, Ceylinco Seylan Developments Limited, was also established in 1992, primarily for the purpose of constructing the Bank's head office building, Ceylinco Seylan Towers.

The Bank's newest subsidiary, Seylan Bank Asset Management Limited was incorporated in 1999 in response to the Central Bank requirement that primary dealers in Government securities be maintained as separate corporate entities. The Bank's other subsidiaries are SMB Money Brokers (Private) Limited Ceylinco Express (Pvt) Ltd, SMB Real Estate Limited & Seylan Merchant Leasing Ltd.

In the 19 years since its inception, Seylan Bank has established a strong presence island wide through its Network of 116 branches.

Customers of on-line branches have access to a network of 98 Automated Teller Machines (ATMs) and can also obtain Tele-banking facilities.

Seylan Bank is also associated with the Saudi American Bank which offer Sri Lankan expatriate workers the advantage of a special money transfer scheme named Speed Cash between Saudi Arabia and Sri Lanka. The Bank also manages two Exchange Houses in the Middle East - one in Dubai and other in Oman.

Seylan Bank shares are quoted on the Colombo Stock Exchange CSE).

INCORPORATION
Seylan Bank Limited is a public limited liability company, which was incorporated in Colombo on 28th August 1987 as "Seylan Trust Bank Limited" under the Companies Act No 17 of 1982. The Bank has changed it's name on 6th July 1990 under section 20 (3) of the Companies Act No.17 of 1982 as "Seylan Bank Limited". The Bank obtained the certificate to commence business on 29th September 1987.
